Encounters with Jesus- Part 2
The Woman with the issue of Blood- ‘If I can touch Him’- Faith in Action This woman came to Jesus with faith, believing He could heal her. But it is important we understand how bad her situation really was, and the disappointments that she had already endured over many years that could easily have caused her to doubt. This will help us to begin to grasp the amazing faith that she still held onto in spite of her disappointments. She showed a determination in her heart to get close to Jesus and nothing was going to stop her receiving from Him. Mark 5 v (25-28) “Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” We all face challenges, some are small and quite easy to overcome, but others can be a lot tougher.- we can learn from the determination of this woman. On 27 the March 2020 I did not feel very well, I had a temperature above 38.5c, I had tightness in my chest, everything consistent with covid 19. It would have been easy to give into fear at this point. I sent messages to two friends that I trusted in God and asked for their prayers. I then got out my iPhone and put it on a loop reading of Psalm 91, continually listening to it for about 3 hours, then changed that to a 4-hour message on YouTube that quoted promises of God’s healing. I recognised that I need to build up my faith, and to trust in God’s Word to bring healing. By the morning, my temperature was back to normal, no tightness in my chest and I was completely healed. God’s Word when combined with faith, makes the impossible become a reality. ‘Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God’. Mark 5 v 29 “Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction”. This woman pushed through the crowd, determined to receive from Jesus, she had faith that He could heal her. She was rewarded with a miracle from Jesus, but He then goes on to commend her for her faith. Mark 5 v 34 And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.” We need to press into Jesus, even though there may have been past struggles and disappointments, having that same determination as this woman, ‘that I may touch Him’
